I woke up to sad news today. A journalist was shot this morning in my home province, Cebu, Philippines.
He is Reynante “Rey” Cortes, who is a commentator of DYRB-AM radio station.
He was shot outside his workplace around 8 a.m. and was declared dead on arrival at the Cebu City Medical Center (CCMC).
According to the National Union of Journalists in the Philippines (NUJP), this is the “second time an attempt was made on Cortes’s life.”
According to online reports, police said the death of Cortes might be related to his work as a commentator.
It’s so sad to know that another member of the media has died today.
As a journalism student, I wonder what the motive of the killer was. But whatever it is, I hope the police will find the killer and give justice to Cortes’s death.
Talk to you soon.
